Fermáta is a legendary instrumental jazzrock band from Slovakia. It was established in 1973 by lead guitarist, and the only stable member, František Griglák previous member of Prúdy and Collegium Musicum, together with Tomáš Berka keyboards, Peter Szapu drums and Anton Jaro bass. First, self-titled album appeared in 1975, released by Opus. The band sounded extraordinary, and fulfilled their vision of difficult music for prepared listeners. Second album, entitled Pieseň z hôľ was released year later. Peter Szapu left the band and was replaced by Cyril Zelenák. The read more. Combining the intimacy of chamber music with the boldness of rock, Fermata weaves together a sound that is. We are a month, perhaps less from releasing our first new song in over a decade. We have 3 songs in the works, but are eager to do an entire album, maybe more. Its been so long since we were in contact with the fans we were lucky enough to have made of the first album, we want to guage who, if anyone is still out there and would want to be part of helping us create more music. This album is rated in the top 15 of all albums on . Right from their first album, FERMATA posessed some quality western instruments like Gibson, Fender, Rickenbacker and the full array of keyboards except the Mellotron and the Moog, which might be a bit surprising for a band that was under scrutiny of the closed-borders regime. Their music slowly degraded to a synthesized rock of Ad Libitum in the mid-80's. The Jazz RockFusion band Fermata has quite the interesting past. They were formed in 1973 in Slovakia by Frantisek Griglak guitar and Thomas Berka keyboards. Their music was somehow accepted by the USSR government as their music was released on the government owned label Opus
