Bridging the Gap, the second single from Nas' Street's Disciple, features his father, Olu Dara, and samples music from Muddy Waters' Mannish Boy composition. Nas and Olu Dara performed the song many times before the release of Street's Disciple, generating buzz as the release of the album drew near. Nas told Rolling Stone magazine that this song is about his relationship with his father: I got to know my father more in that whole period, I got to learn more about him and his life and his career and why he made certain decisions, things that I never asked before. Bridging the Gap, the 2nd single off Nas' upcoming album, Street's Disciple, is a mix of blues and rap, and it works to perfection. The harmonica-based beat is reminiscent of the Outkast's Rosa Parks, and Nas' flow & lyrics are on-point, as usual. Nas even has his own father on the hook. Bridging the Gap even has a little bit of radio appeal, and will definately be making Street's Disciple a hot commodity when it finally does come out. Read more. 4 people found this helpful

I bought this record before I heard it. I'm not particullarly feeling this song. Perhaps it will grow on me the more I hear it. But what I am feeling is the cover and label. The cover looks like a vintage vinyl from the '70s, with the word 'Stereo' written on the corner, and the effect of the cover creasing on both sides of the cover. The label on the actual record itself looks vintage, with the words 'Long Play' written around the record, rather than across it, as it's been done since the '80's. I'm sure Nas put his heart, emotions, & thoughts into the song, but it's obvious someone put some thought into the presentation of this single. Is it Nas from 2004 or Olu Dara from 1964? Don't be fooled!
