Album

Dare released as Dare in the US is the third studio album by British synthpop band the Human League, first released in the UK on 16 October 1981 then subsequently in the US in mid-1982. The album was recorded between March and September 1981 following the departure of founding members Martyn Ware and Ian Craig Marsh, and saw the band shift direction from their prior avant-garde electronic style toward a more pop-friendly, commercial sound led by frontman Philip Oakey. Формируйте собственную коллекцию записей The By Yours Truly. The 1st & 5th TRACK is The Unlimited League Orchestra. The Rest is NOT . They are bonafide instrumentals. Dare captures a moment in time perfectly - the moment post-punk's robotic fascination with synthesizers met a clinical Bowie-esque infatuation with fashion and modern art, including pop culture, plus a healthy love of songcraft. That doesn't mean that the album isn't arty, since it certainly is, but that's part of its power - the self-conscious detachment enhances the postmodern sense of emotional isolation, obsession with form over content, and love of modernity for its own sake. Each Sunday, Pitchfork takes an in-depth look at a significant album from the past, and any record not in our archives is eligible. Today, we revisit the high-art synth-pop of the Human Leagues Dare, a prismatic album that all pop music would soon pass through. In late 1980, the singer Philip Oakey was scheduled to go on tour and make a third record with his band the Human League. Dare also issued as Dare is the third studio album recorded and released by The Human League and the first to be released after the group split in 1980. The album was produced by Martin Rushent and The Human League, and recorded at Rushent's Genetic Sound studios near Reading, Berkshire between March and September 1981. It was released in the UK on 16 October 1981. The Human League - Dare review: Disposable, cheap, and throwaway. All words that do not describe the Human Leagues 3rd album, 'Dare'. It's hard to believe in the 21st century that at one point in the not so distant past, synthesizer based pop music was in itself an avant-garde art form. Our culture has diluted it so much so, that almost all of the original bands which made it a great and interesting new genre have either been thrown under the wheels of obscurity, or, in the case of bands like the Human League, overexposed, bastardized, and cut up into easily digested bites of retro-reminiscence.
